TDC remains some way off attaining its stated goal of a 50% share of Denmark’s OTT market.
According to Jakob Bøgh Sørensen, head of OTT at TDC Consumer, it is still building its service, which was launched in Beta in December 2012 and made its official debut in January.
It has required a continuous sales pitch and the telco has found itself to be weakest in marketing and communications, whereas the technical side has not really presented it with any problems.
Sørensen said that its OTT service was launched as a response to the “new guests” HBO and Netflix that entered the Danish market last year, with the latter now making “a big splash”.
Faced with the prospect of losing some VOD subscribers and cord cutting, it decided to build an OTT subscription VOD service, in partnership with C-More and including a transactional (TVOD) element.
TDC has been offering VOD services for the last two years and is the leading provider of TVOD in Denmark.
