Ericsson’s vision is one of a “network society”, according to Joachim Bergman, its COO and head of Global Solutions Business Unit Global Services.
Speaking to Broadband TV News at an event in London to mark the first anniversary of the acquisition on Technicolor’s broadcast services, he added that Ericsson already manages broadcast services for over 200 channels and cited the example of the playout services for HBO Nordic, where Ericsson managed to get everything up and running in less than six months.
Asked how he saw the company evolving in the next one to two years, Bergman said “more broadcasters are looking to finding new ways to monetise content.
What they need is better, cheaper distribution, a platform to reach all devices.”
He also said that part of Ericsson’s strategy is to bring telecom and IP operators into broadcast.
Asked whether Ericsson plans to expand its presence in Europe, where the company currently has offices in only four countries, he said that it has global ambitions.
More announcements about Ericsson’s strategy and future plans can be expected at IBC.
