Serbia could see the launch of a new national commercial station in September.
Balkan Insight reports that Sky Info Plus has taken over the premises of the defunct TV Avala and plans to apply for the frequency it used to the Serbian Broadcasting Agency (RRA).
The deadline for doing so is July 7, and if Sky Info Plus is successful it could go on air in September.
Sky Info Plus has ownership links to the ruling Progressive Party and has taken on a number of former TV Avala employees.
TV Avala had financial difficulties for a number of years and lost its broadcasting licence in October 2012 soon after the government stopped its proposed sale.
Significantly, Vincent Degert, the head of the EU delegation in Serbia, said earlier this week the EU was hoping TV Avala’s frequency would be used for DTT test transmissions. Serbia has set June 17, 2015 as its analogue switch off date.
