YouView has announced its first consolidated installation figures, putting the PSB/telco broadband project in almost 400,000 homes as of the end of March.
However, the platform has not separated the number of households that have acquired the DTT/broadband hybrid receivers through telco partners BT and TalkTalk with those who have made a purchase at retail.
Figures released in February showed TalkTalk to hold 80,000 YouView customers and BT 60,000. Both figures would have been expected to have significantly increased.
YouView has however given some colour to usage patterns for the on demand elements of the service with over 2.2 million video on demand (VOD) plays per week, and around 60% of customers viewing VOD programmes every week. On average viewers watch 7 programmes a week – more than three hours of content – an average length of 27 minutes.
Richard Halton, CEO YouView said, “We’ve had a great start and we’re delighted to have received such a positive response from consumers. We’re already the fastest growing TV service in the UK and now we can see that translating into viewing. Seamless access to content is at the heart of the YouView proposition and we are delighted to announce that internet channels are set to launch this summer as well as the extension of our app strategy to the Android platform. YouView is taking catch-up TV into the mainstream.”
Later this summer YouView will begin the streaming of linear channels from broadband, while in the next few weeks an Android version of its remote record app will be introduced.
