Box TV, which runs music TV channels 4 Music, Heat, Kiss, Kerrang, Box, Smash Hits and Magic, has launched an online streaming service powered by SimpleStream.
Viewers can access the branded OTT player from any of the channel websites; the SimpleStream technology streams the content to PCs, mobiles and tablets, allowing the channels to be viewed on the go for the first time.
An overlay mini-EPG provides easy switching between channels and the ability to share content over popular social networking sites.
Media Manager, SimpleSteam’s proprietary software makes it possible to apply different right profiles across multiple destinations.
To complement this new offering, Box TV has developed an interactive TV portal that gives 4Music Freeview viewers access to Magic, Kiss and Kerrang! via the red button. This is the first time live IP streams have been added to a broadcast DTT channel (4Music) to create a portal of additional content. It’s also the first MHEG-ICS service to make use of encryption to protect the streams.
News of the simulcast service and Freeview portal follows Box TV’s channels becoming free-to-air on Sky and Freesat.
