Prisa lost 28,350 satellite subscribers in the first quarter, ending March with a total of 1,691,281, due to the weak economy and domestic consumption.
However, it added 22,740 customers from other operators of Canal+ 1, including OTT.
At the same time, 345,744 of its satellite subscribers, equivalent to 20.4% of the total, also opted for YOMVI as of the end of Q1. Prisa’s average ARPU of €43.1 was slightly up on the €42.4 million posted a year earlier thanks mainly to a new sports offer that started in September 2012.
Prisa TV (Canal+) revenues grew by 18.3% year-on-year in Q1, with it being affected by a combination of growth in subscriber revenues from other platforms (growing six-fold thanks to football rights multi-distribution agreement), advertising (+85.8%), lower satellite subscriber revenues (-1.3%) and lower services to third parties.
Canal+ also maintained its leading market position in the first quarter, with internal estimates putting the share at 43%, or 70 basis points more than the previous quarter.
Adjusted EBITDA was meanwhile 17.17 million in Q1, or 34.9% less than a year earlier, with it being chiefly impacted by an increase in football rights costs.
