Telenet launches VOIP over Wi-Fi

May 9, 2013 07.36 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Girl using Telenet TriiingBelgian operator Telenet is launching a pilot phase of Triiing, an app that enables mobile telephony via internet.

The Triiing app enables Telenet customers to call all mobile and fixed numbers from their smartphone, via any WiFi network, at Telenet fixed line rates.

Triiing is the operator’s first step in offering mobile Voice Over IP services. The product is currently still in its infancy, and all input from customers who are willing to test it is more than welcome.

Triiing is already available for iOS in the App Store. Other operating systems are to follow later, also as pilot phases.

Using the app requires a Telenet fixed line in order to make calls at the same rates as the home phone line, this includes free calling to all Belgian numbers and European landlines on weekdays after 4 pm, in the weekends and on public holidays. Triiing can be used on any wireless WiFi network, including Telenet’s own network of free hot spots.
