Deutsche Telekom’s quarterly report witnessed a decline in adjusted EBITDA by 4.3% to €4.3 billion. The forecast remains below the values in 2012, though increasing customer numbers in the US and regulatory decisions in favour of the Bonn-based company have brightened the outlook.
“The positive regulatory decisions provide the basis for our planned expansion of broadband,” commented CEO René Obermann the view. In addition, fixed fibre products are becoming increasingly important. Their total number (VDSL and FTTH) increased compared to the first quarter of 2012 by 63 percent to 1.1 million. With 156,000 new customers in the quarter, Telekom’s fibre product generated a record high. Of that total, 46,000 customers in the wholesale area, mainly due to the successful launch quota model.
The TV Entertain IPTV service passed two million homes to reach 2,035,000, an increase of 18% year-on-year.
Telekom’s European activities added 72,000 new mobile contract customers, 72,000 new TV customers, and 58,000 new broadband customers.
