Orange is preparing to shortly launch a new DTH platform in Romania.
Quoting representatives of the country’s National Broadcasting Council (CNA), Mediafax reports that the company has approached the regulator for a satellite licence.
In its submission, it says that it would retransmit a total 13 channels, including services operated by Pro TV and Trinitas TV, from the town of Issy Les Moulineaux in France.
Orange’s request will be considered at one of the next CNA meetings, which usually take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Speculation that Orange will enter Romania’s DTH market has been growing recently in the local press.
Orange Romania has an agreement in place with SES and should it launch a DTH platform in the country it will enter a market already served by RCS&RDS (Digi TV), Romtelecom (Dolce) and UPC (Focus Sat).
There were at one stage five satellite services operating in the country, before two were bought in quick session by OTE-backed Romtelecom.
