The Czech public broadcaster Ceske televize (CT) has launched HD versions of its channels CT1, CT2 and CT Sport. .
The move coincides with the 50th anniversary of CT’s predecessor Ceskoslovenska televize and comes just before the start of the World Ice Hockey Championships, which it will now be able to show in HD.
It has been made possible following consultations with the Czech Telecom Office (CTU) and telecom operators, with CT deciding that it would use the regional multiplex 7 as an extension of existing capacity for the public service multiplex up to 2015.
The results of a new round of frequency planning will only become known after then and CT sees this temporary solution lasting until 2017.
CT’s two new thematic channels – D (aimed at kids) and CT art – have meanwhile begun test transmissions and will be offered in SD, sharing the same frequency, from September.
