CAEC 2013 – Prague. Decisions on the availability of high-speed internet access should probably be undertaken on a national rather than European level.
Speaking in a Q&A session, Fabio Colasanti, president of the Institute of Communications (IIC) was responding to the (unconfirmed) news that the EC would like to see high-speed internet access connections made mandatory in all new apartments.
In his view, the Commission probably supported the idea that such connections should rather be accessible.
Dr Marianne Klingbell, deputy secretary general, EC, meanwhile said that such a decision would have to be discussed on many levels before being reached.
In her earlier presentation, she had spoken of the importance of impact assessments in the preparation of new legislation.
Dr Simon Moores, MD of Zentelligence and vice chair of the Conservative Technology Forum, said that the roolout of broadband had been extremely successful in the UK.
