Dutch operator Ziggo added just 4,000 new digital TV subscribers during the first quarter of the year, marking a slowdown in its growth.
According to research by the Dutch website digitalekabeltelevisie.nl this is the second quarter with very slow digital TV growth (see chart).
According to the operator’s Q1 results, Ziggo now has 2,260,000 homes with at least one smart card in the house, this represents 79.3% of all TV customers. The cabler has 2,851,000 homes connected, a penetration rate of 67.7% (out of 4,211,000 homes passed).
During the quarter, the number of customers buying premium TV services dropped from 929,000 to 909,000. However, total income from premium channel climbed slightly to €43.1 million (up from €43 million), or €15.82 per subscriber.
