Tablets overtake mobile in iPlayer viewing

April 19, 2013 09.33 Europe/London By Julian Clover

BBC iPlayerIncreasing usage of tablets has led to the devices recording more iPlayer viewing in March than through mobiles.

Requests on tablet devices were some 200,000 ahead of mobile. Approximately 41 million requests were through tablets out of a total of 272 million requests, equaling the record set in January this year.

On 128 million requests, computers remain the most popular platform for the iPlayer, though on 32 million internet TV and connected devices are edging up.

The BBC has been running a campaign to increase awareness of iPlayer availability on the TV.

Use of the iPlayer remains strongly under 55 in terms of age, younger than the typical TV viewer or radio listeners profile, though in line with home broadband.
