The Serbian government has indicated that the incumbent telco Telekom Srbija is still on the market.
Quoted in the local press, Aleksandar Ljubic, the state secretary in the ministry of finance, said: “the government will consider every possible credible offer to buy the company if it existed.
“Telekom has already been on the market and could not find a strategic partner. Generally speaking, if there to be an offer from a (potential) strategic partner that would enable the company secure long-term stability, innovation and investment and retain its first place in the country and region then the government would consider such an offer.”
Telekom Srbija is majority (58.11%) owned by the Republic of Serbia and includes an IPTV operation named Open TV among its interests.
It previously listed Greece’s OTE as a shareholder but bought back its 20% stake in 2012.
