RAI, Mediaset and Telecom Italia are officially barred from applying for frequencies in the Italian DTT auction.
The communications regulator Agcom has unanimously approved the rules for the sale of three DTT multiplexes that will now be sent to the ministry of development to start the auction process.
The measures released by Agcom on Thursday introduce a number of changes to the scheme that was originally put forward on November 14, 2012, following consultation with the European Commission.
In order to ensure a greater degree of competition only new entrants will be allowed to bid for all three lots (L1, L2 and L3). Two lots will be available to operators that already hold two multiplexes.
RAI and Mediaset already have four multiplexes and TI Media has three. Sky is expected to bid for a single lot.
