Arqiva is establishing a new fibre point-of-presence in Warsaw as part of an expansion as part of an expansion of its European satellite channel distribution.
The point-of-presence will allow channels to be backhauled to the UK from Poland for onward distribution.
The company has acquired a new satellite transponder in the Eutelsat Hot Bird neighbourhood (13 degrees East) that it will use to provide high definition channels into Poland, Greece and Italy.
Barrie Woolston, commercial director, Satellite & Media, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for broadcasters and contents owners to provide HD services into key European markets. As an independent operator Arqiva is committed to supporting our customers’ expansion plans across Europe.”
Arqiva already operates three multiplexes on Hot Bird that are used for standard definition channels for DTH in Italy (Sky Italia), Poland (Polsat, and nc+) and Greece (Nova).
In common with other HD services, the new platform will operate in DVB-S2.
