The Russian OTT market could be worth up to $400 million (€312.1 million) by 2020, with pay-per-view and VOD accounting for 50% of the total.
The projections, produced by J’son & Partners, were quoted in local reviews of this week’s Connected TV & Video forum in Moscow.
They also point out that many leading Russian pay-TV operators, including NTV-Plus, Tricolor TV and VimpelCom, have already announced plans to launch OTT services.
TV viewing is growing in Russia and on average amounts to 226 minutes per person each day.
Furthermore, 72% of Russians watch TV each day, while the monthly rate stands at 99%.
However, the pay-TV sector, though served by a large number of operators, is still only worth around $1 billion.
