MIPTV 2013 – Cannes. MIPTV is teaming with YouTube to launch the inaugural Original Online Content Screenings, which offer a unique showcase for a new generation of creative producers.
In partnership with YouTube, this special screening session will highlight successful examples of YouTube Channels from around the world showcasing works by a new generation of creative producers, who are redefining content and the future of TV. .
This event will be hosted by Michael Stevens, founder and presenter of Vsauce, YouTube’s most-subscribed science and technology channel who comes fresh from his TED talk where he asked, “How Much Does a Video Weigh?”
Among the online content creators to take part, Christian Stevenson, aka DJ BBQ, the roving barbecue-meister from Jamie Oliver’s Food Tube.
Philip Laude, creator of Germany’s Ponk, will present the largest non-English-language original channel on YouTube, offering a blend of comedy and real-life escapades of five young people sharing a flat in Cologne. He will also introduce Y-Titty, the most-subscribed German-language channel on YouTube, a comedy mix by three young guys who do song parodies and spoof commercials.
Make-up artists Sam and Nic Chapman will demonstrate their UK make-up tips channel Pixiwoo, which has gained massive popularity with some 6.5 millions views a month. On a very different tack, Tim “Livewire” Shieff will introduce the channel on which he stars, Flow – The Parkour Network, a channel for urban sports.
Lorenzo Benedetti, president, The Social Company Production, will provide a taste of Studio Bagel, a comedy channel offering parodies, skits and fake trailers which is gaining considerable traction in the online community in its native France.
Also from France, Adrien Labastire, deputy manager of Golden Moustache, a new French-language digital comedy platform offering videos, articles and photos, which is distributed both on its own website and on YouTube, and is soon to be broadcast on French channel W9.
“The Original Online Content Screenings set out to show the wider TV community the dynamic and innovative creativity that is abundant in the online arena, and to encourage the exchange between these web-based channels and other platforms,” commented Laurine Garaude, director of television division at Reed MIDEM.
The Original Online Content Screenings will take place on Monday, Spril 8, April at MIPTV, 10.45-11.30, in the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals.
