HbbTV Forum Netherlands, a consortium of broadcasters, suppliers, distributors and other stakeholders, has decided to use the 1.5 version of the international HbbTV standard.
The choice of the HbbTV Forums Netherlands follows the choices made elsewhere in Europe, for example in France and Spain.
Egon Verharen, manager R & D at Dutch public broadcaster NPO, said in a statement: “NPO sees HbbTV as THE way to guide the general public through its offer on connected TVs, add additional programme information and encourage involvement with interactive capabilities and additional services. ”
Edwin Valent, creative director SBS Broadcasting: “The HbbTV standard fits perfectly with the philosophy of our Full Media Format strategy, ensuring that our content is available and interaction possible, independent of where, when and on which device the user wants it.”
Arno Otto, managing director of digital media RTL Netherlands: “RTL Netherlands strives for open content distribution: we want to reach the consumer wherever he is located. The HbbTV standard for smart TVs promotes this development. It contributes to a faster and wider distribution of our content across multiple devices. “
