Httv implements Marlin DRM for HbbTV 1.5

March 18, 2013 20.05 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Httv, an international solution and technology provider for digital TV, has announced that, httvLink, its open-middleware for connected TV receivers, implements Intertrust’s Marlin DRM for the coming HbbTV 1.5 markets.

HttvLink is an open middleware solution for connected TV receivers. It addresses all digital TV, Free to Air and pay-TV platforms. It is based upon industry open source (Linux, Webkit, QT, DirectFB) and open standards (HTML 5 and HbbTV) warranting solution sustainability and platform openness.

HttvLink offers an user interface for connected TV platforms, designed to give the user a highly responsive experience and easy access to advanced features including DVB, PVR, Media Center, and Connected TV services through the HbbTV standard or through Web application Portal, Video On Demand services… httvLink is pre-integrated and tested on major mass market digital TV chipsets and CAS solutions.

Marlin DRM is an open standard for content protection founded eight years ago by Intertrust, a leader in trusted distributed computing, along with Sony, Samsung, Philips and Panasonic. It is now the content protection technology of choice for numerous national Connected TV initiatives across Europe and in Asia. It has been chosen by the French HD forum for its TNT 2.0 technical specifications and supports version 1.5, the latest version of the HbbTV specification. Intertrust is the world’s only provider of advanced multiplatform OEM SDKs for Marlin servers and clients.

“Marlin is the DRM reference in many digital TV markets including France, Spain, Italy and the UK. Its open-standard strategy and ability to support the HbbTV 1.5 specification has made it the natural choice for a DRM technology and Intertrust’s turnkey solution integrates very nicely into our middleware stack”, said Regis Saint Girons, httv’s CEO, in a statement.

“With the integration of Intertrust’s Marlin solution and HbbTV 1.5, our httvLink solution is in a strong position to be a major contributor to the successful deployment of TNT 2.0 in 2013”.

“HbbTV is an key market for Marlin and by thereby Intertrust’s content protection solutions. We are happy to partner with httv to integrate our SDK and cloud service into a fully-compliant Marlin solution for HbbTV” said Gilles Boccon-Gibod, SVP, technology, and chief architect, Intertrust.
