The leading Ukrainian cable operator Volia will launch an OTT service next week.
Quoting the company’s president Sergei Boyko, Kommersant reports that to receive the service subscribers will have to rent a decoder for UAH20 (€1.87) a month and connect it to the internet via cable.
Besides Volia’s three standard TV programme packages, they will also be able to watch YouTube and the online video service oll.tv, with more services to be added in due course.
Although Boyko did not provide an exact figure for the cost of launching the service, it will amount to “several million dollars.”
OTT has yet to make an impact on the Ukrainian marketplace, with the take-up of the service offered by Divan.TV, its first provider, being low.
Volia had 1.38 million subscribers as of Q3 2012 and has already entered into partnership agreements with other operators to make its OTT service more widely available.
