CABLE CONGRESS 2013 – LONDON. Zon’s cloud-based recording service Timewarp is proving to be a big success.
Launched only last September, it is, according to Zon COO Luis Lopes, already used by 95% of IRIS customers, with 70% doing so every day.
There is a 10% concurrency usage at peak and 9.1 out of 10 satisfaction.
Commenting more generally on Zon and the Portuguese market, Lopes said that the operator competes with FTTH in the majority of its footprint.
While it has 3 million subscribers, the incumbent has 1.6 million and mobile operators 0.4 million FTTH customers.
In both the latter instances, they overlap over 95% with Zon. Lopes also said that FTTH providers offer very heavy discounts, in one instance in the past up its service free of charge for up to 12 months.
Lopes in addition said that while private consumption and telecom market revenues fell by 8% and 14% respectively in Portugal in the period 2010-2012, Zon’s revenues and subscriber total rose by 3% and 7% respectively.
