CABLE CONGRESS 2013 – LONDON. The biggest threat to the cable industry is not cord cutters but young people who have never has cords to cut, according to Bruce Tuchman, president, AMC/Sundance Global Channel, AC Networks.
Speaking in a panel discussion entitled Content Driven: The Business of Getting to the Consumer, he added that this was a problem that had to be addressed and the best way to do so was through TV Everywhere.
Although Tuchman also spoke about a trend that was being seen of screen convergence, this was questioned by Catherine Powell, SVP & GM, media distribution, The Walt Disney Company EMEA. In her view, there is a need to understand consumer behaviour on different devices.
In the case of iPads, for instance, her company had found the need to make content interactive.
Also speaking in the same session, Colin Lawrence, distribution director, BBC Global News Ltd, said that by the end of the year 50% of page views for BBC Global would be through mobile devices.
