The third stage of Poland’s transition to digital broadcasting will get under way on March 19.
It will see the switch off of analogue transmitters in Elblag, Rzeszow, Szczecin, Warsaw and Wisla and at the same time activation of digital transmitters distributing channels on the third multiplex MUX-3.
Polish viewers can currently receive up to 21 DTT channels free of charge, with the number set to rise to 24 by the time ASO is completed in July this year.
MUX-3 is allocated solely to TVP channels and second multiplex MUX-2 to commercial services.
The first multiplex MUX-1 currently offers a mix of TVP and new commercial channels, though this will be changed, with a tender for four slots having closed at the end of February.
