CABLE CONGRESS 2013 – LONDON. Ireland has benefited to the tune of €54 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) thanks to the rollout of infrastructure.
Despite having a population of only 4 million and 1.65 million households, it is also well served by providers of telco services, according to Dana Strong, CEO, UPC Ireland.
Strong referred to the importance of the internet to Ireland’s GDP, saying the figure should reach 6% by 2015.
She also said that although the current contribution towards GDP is typically 4% in the G8, 20% of growth is coming from the digital economy.
Strong in addition referred to a recent survey that found Irish household regard broadband as more important than such utilities as water and electricity.
