Canal Digital adds five Chello Zone channels

March 5, 2013 10.11 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Louise CottrellNorwegian cable operator Canal Digital Kabel TV, part of Telenor, has started carrying five Chello Zone channels.

They are CBS Reality in partnership with CBS Studios International, Extreme Sports Channel and Outdoor Channel, in addition to Food Network and Fine Living owned by Scripps Networks Interactive.

All five networks will be available in the optional digital basic offer which has a potential reach of up to 500,000 viewers.

The deal is the latest step in the international expansion of the Chello Zone portfolio into the EMEA market, following the launch of the newly rebranded CBS Chello Zone Channels across Europe, Middle East and Africa in December last year.

“The expansion of the Chello Zone portfolio into Norway reflects the growing popularity of our family of channels and our dedication to reaching new audiences around the world,” said Louise Cottrell, Chello Zone’s VP of affiliate sales.

“Through a diverse offering of channels, our programming offers a wide variety of entertainment for all the family. We are thrilled that even more viewers in Europe will now be able to enjoy our thematic channels bringing the best in classic and iconic content, original programming and entertaining show to our audiences.”

Food Network will broadcast in both HD and SD, with Fine Living available in SD. This is Food Network’s first distribution deal into the Norwegian TV market.

“It’s great to see Scripps expanding its footprint, with Food Network and Fine Living boosting distribution in another important international territory,” said Jon Sichel, managing director of Scripps EMEA. “We’re really pleased to know that Canal Digital TV viewers will soon have the opportunity to watch quality lifestyle programming on both channels.”
