4Fun Media has also joined the race for the four DTT licences that will be awarded by the Polish regulator KRRiT.
Four DTT slots are up for grabs in the first multiplex with the reorganisation due in 2014.
4Fun Media , the company that owns the TV stations rebel.tv, 4fun.tv and TV Disco, wants to launch an educational channel, said Ewa Czeka?a, president of the company.
Other companies that applied for a licence are Edusat and the Apella company, which is affiliated with CU Media (a publisher of various web portals such as wPolityce.pl and wSieci.pl).
“We have applied for a licence for the educational channel. We decided to compete in this area, because this subject is our expertise,” said Romuald Eagle, president of Apella.
There is also a new competitor that wants to take the place of the religious channel Trwam TV. According to unconfirmed reports, the web TV channel Boska TV (God TV) is looking to win a licence.
Platform Mediowa Point Group, a subsidiary of MediaWorks in collaboration with Astro is proposing two channels, including an educational channel.
Other parties are also interested in launching movie channels on Polish DTT.
