17% of German viewers are using time-shifted television, according to research carried out by Ipsos on behalf of Kabel Deutschland.
Usage among 16-29 years olds is double the average with 33% using this feature. Another 37% of younger viewers also want more choice in television on-demand
The survey among 1,000 Germans also showed that 47% uses a smartphone to access the internet. Not surprisingly, the percentage of young users is 71%, while only 30% of people over 50 use their smartphone to access the web.
Tablets are being used by 14% of all Germans to access the internet, with 17% of younger users and just 8% of people between 50 and 80 years old.
The cabler also said it now has more than one million HD homes plus another two million households that buy at least one premium TV service.
“Our premium TV products, especially the HDTV packages and HD PVR, provide our cable customers more ways to enjoy television. The new opportunities to revolutionise user behavior in the German TV market, and our premium TV products are crucial as the main TV growth driver for the company’s success, said Philip Brunner, head of B2C product management TV at Kabel Deutschland.
