VIMN Africa teams up with Nigeria’s NTA

February 5, 2013 10.06 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Pimp My RideViacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa has signed a partnership and training agreement with NTA, the Nigerian national terrestrial network, Nigerian Television Authority.

In a deal NTA will broadcast VIMN programming daily, including youth-focused editorial under its MTV Base brand, five days a week in the early afternoon, with an additional late night slot on Fridays and Saturdays.

Children’s and family content will air under the Nickelodeon banner seven days a week.

VIMN Africa will also provide skills training and workshops in TV production for NTA member stations and personnel, to support the development of local production expertise.

The government-owned NTA is Africa’s most widely distributed TV network, and Nigeria’s only broadcaster with national coverage reaching 90 million viewers across Nigeria via a network of state channels and local affiliates.

Included in the programming are local and international music, lifestyle, reality, chat and animation series, such as MTV Base VJ Search – Nigeria followed by the Official Naija Top 10, Big Base Beats, The Big Friday Show, Cribs, Run’s House and Pimp My Ride.

From the Nickelodeon stable, shows include Dora the Explorer, The Penguins of Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and SpongeBob SquarePants.

Alex Okosi, SVP and managing director, VIMN Africa said: “We are delighted that our partnership with NTA will expand the footprint of our content in Nigeria, bringing new viewers in touch with the VIMN portfolio. We are excited to share our expertise with our peers at NTA in Nigeria in order to maximise the partnership.”
