3.5 million German (7%) use paid streaming services on the internet, according to high-tech association Bitkom.
More than one in four Germans (22 million) watch or buy movies and TV series online, either as a download or by ordering media such as Blu-ray discs or DVDs via the internet. This corresponds to 41% of all internet users in Germany.
This is the result of a representative survey commissioned by Bitkom and carried out by research institute Forsa, who surveyed 1,063 people.
Not surprisingly, watching movies online is particularly popular among younger people (18-29 years old), with more than half of them watching online movies (58%)
For 30 – to 49-year olds, it is one in two (51%).
“Media are increasingly bought over the internet, the same goes for movies,” said Dr. Bernhard Rohleder, managing director of Bitkom.
“Streaming services available on a growing range of mobile devices and broadband os becoming more popular. In addition, more and more TV manufacturers are becoming connected.”
