Film1 and Sport1 hit 525,000 subs

January 31, 2013 11.37 Europe/London By Robert Briel

film1identThe total number of subscribers to Chellomedia’s Film1 and Sport1 premium channels has reached 525,000, a growth of 7% during the past 12 months.

It is the first time that the subscriber count has surpassed 500,000. According to Liberty Global’s Chellomedia, both channels are running at a profit. The success was due to further thematisation of the channels. Online sales of live international football matches doubled during the period. contributing to the financial results of the channels.

Early in 2012, Chellomedia added Film1 Series bringing the total number of premium movie channels to five. In March 2012, Film1 Sundance was launched in cooperation with The Sundance Channel.

Sport1 introduced a fourth 24/7 channel in August 2012, Sport1 Voetbal (football).

“We have a great year behind us with Film1 and Sport1,” said Will Moerer, VP Sport1/Film1. “Research and our experience with Sport1 Golf and Tennis Sport1 show that our subscribers have a need for clarity in programming. That’s why we further thematised sports channels. An increase in the number of subscribers with another 7% to more than half a million is clearly the result of a further profiling of the two channels, “
