Sporting Telenet retains Premier League rights

January 28, 2013 13.22 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Sporting TelenetTelenet has extended the contract with the Premier League for another three years covering seasons 2013/14 – 2015/16.

Telenet is a current Premier League rights holder in Belgium and thanks to the new agreement, England’s top-flight football will remain available on Telenet’s subscription-based sports channel, Sporting Telenet.

“There is no question that the Premier League has a highly symbolic value in the world of football,” according to the cabler, “The English top-level competition is one of the most exciting in the world, and attracts the very best players.

“The Belgian connection has also expanded during recent years, with Vincent Kompany and Thomas Vermaelen both being captains with top clubs, and players such as Fellaini, Lukaku and Benteke being well-respected by football fans in England and around the world. In total, there are currently 14 Belgians in the Premier League.”

“Our customers tell us that they enjoy the English Premier League very much,” said Ann Caluwaerts , SVP public affairs and media management,” in a statement.

“In particular because they can now follow the Belgian players more closely. That is one of the reasons why Telenet made a great effort to retain the broadcasting rights to the Premier League. With the Premier League rights secured Sporting Telenet will remain the channel with the best sports offer in Flanders.”

In addition to English football, all Belgian matches will be available live on Sporting Telenet. The German Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A and the Dutch Eredivisie will also remain part of the Sporting Telenet package.
