HBO signs NBCUniversal output deal

January 23, 2013 07.57 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Bourne LegacyHBO Nederland has signed a long-term output deal with NBCUniversal which will bring the studio’s output to the channels beginning in the fourth quarter of 2013.

The exclusive deal includes titles such as The Bourne Legacy, Ted, Despicable Me 2, This Is 40 and Les Misérables. All titles will become available on the three HBO channels in the Netherland as as well as on the HBO On Demand service.

“With the closing of this deal we can offer our subscribers an even wider range of films with some of Hollywood’s biggest movies,” said Jaap Bruijnen, general manager HBO Nederland. “HBO Nederland is working continuously to expand the nukber of movies and we are glad that we can soon add NBCUniversal movies to our lineup. With the closing of this deal we strengthen our position as a provider of first-run movies on the Dutch market for premium television services”.

HBO Nederland already has access to output from a number of major Hollywood studios including Warner Bros, Disney, Sony Pictures anbd affiliated studios as well as a number of independent producers. A main feature of the HBO chabnnels is the showing of original HBO productions, usually within 24 hours of their original US broadcast.

The deal with NBC Universal is a serious blow to Chellomedia’s Film1, who until now owned the exclusive premium television rights for the Netherlands.
