Accedo and Orange have announced a partnership to enable an end-to-end solution for the upcoming Orange Live Box Play set-top-box.
The Orange Live Box Play uses Accedo’s application management solution, Accedo Application Sphere, which provides a fully customisable front-end user interface with multiple existing applications, as well as a highly scalable and secure back-end system.
AAS has been designed for integration flexibility and supports integration all IP-based TV middlewares and any subscriber management, device management or content security solutions. AAS was awarded best technology innovation at the Connected TV World Summit earlier this year.
Accedo will be a key enabler of the Orange Appshop section, which will include many applications at the time of launch. Users will be able to access a range of program-specific contextual apps, further enriching the viewer experience.
“Orange is the leading Telecom operator in France and we are excited to be working with them on this innovative project,” commented Michael Lantz, CEO, Accedo.
“The combination of Orange’s powerful Live Box Play set-top-box and Accedo’s application management solution, together with the international, as well as local apps, will provide an unmatched interactive TV experience for the end user.”
Live Box Play uses the Intel Groveland set-top-box media processor. Orange intends to integrate social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, enabling viewers to access those sites on a split screen whilst watching TV or on-demand programing. The gyro remote control facilitates navigation and will be equipped with a full keyboard in the back.
“Accedo has impressive experience developing TV applications, with a highly flexible proven application management solution” commented Jean-Bernard Willem, head of content marketing Orange France.
“Accedo was therefore a natural choice to partner with us on this solution, which we believe will be an extremely strong proposition for the end-user.”
