Polish channel targets eyes April launch

January 8, 2013 11.32 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The new Polish channel Telewizja Republika could make its debut on April 10, or the third anniversary of the Smolensk air disaster.

Quoted by Wirtualne Media, its president Piotr Barelkowski said the date had a significant meaning and was being considered by the channel, which will be information-based and offer viewers a right-of-centre perspective.

He added that it would be applying this week to the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) for a satellite licence.

It is also engaged in talks with cable and DTH operators to secure carriage on their platforms.

Telewizja Republika will have a budget of PLN4-5 million (€970,240-1,212,800) this year and its owners are planning a private placement and debut on the NewConnect share market in Warsaw in February.
