Ultra High Definition (Ultra-HD or UHD, also know as 4K) TVs will be a highlight of this month’s International CES in Las Vegas. Strategy Analytics has modelled the outlook for UHD-ready TVs based on assumptions of rapidly falling prices and realistic demand expectations for the 60 inch (152cm) and over screen size segments where UHD will dominate.
We estimate that the global installed base will reach nearly 10 million units by 2016 and then increase rapidly to reach more than 250 million by 2022. That may seem a long way off but it should give reassurance to content and service providers who are beginning to consider developing and distributing UHD content. North America will inevitably lead the way in UHD TV adoption but Europe will not be far behind.
