Digital TV Summit 2012 – LONDON. The Roku box is not designed as a replacement for other services in households and can in some instances be seen as complementary to the Sky Box.
Furthermore, according to Clive Hudson, VP & general manager Europe, Roku, it offers a “lean-back experience” and is not aimed at “geeky or techy users”.
Hudson added that Roku has sold 3 million units in the last 2-3 years in the US, where it offers viewers 500 channels.
It has been available in the UK since February and has included Now TV since two weeks ago.
He also said that it is unrealistic to expect a “big bang” scenario in which people move suddenly to OTT.
