Digital TV Summit 2012 – LONDON. 730,000 Sky Deutschland subscribers have chosen the Sky+ box, which delivers a push VOD service.
While this is still relatively low compared to its subscriber total of 3.212 million as of Q3, it is still, according to Peter Schultz, the company’s VP on demand programming, 240% more than a year earlier.
Schultz added that the Sky+ box has a 320 GB hard disk and gives access to Sky Anytime.
However, subscribers are offered a plug and play solution in the shape of a 2 TB external drive that provides up to 600 hours of recording space.
Schultz also said that Sky Deutschland is currently evaluating different OTT models but has yet to make a decision. It would in addition like to launch services outside German speaking territories but there are a huge variety of rights issues involved.
Commenting on these territories, he added that one out of two TV and mobiles now sold there are smart.
There will also be over 2.7 million tablet sales in the territories this year.
