Cyfrowy Polsat has posted much better results for the third quarter than expected, though its subscriber total was little changed on a year earlier.
Poland’s leading provider of pay-TV services had 3,557,888 subscribers as of September 30, or 1.5% more than 12 months earlier.
Of these, 2,756,402 (+0.5%) and 801,486 (+4.9%) received the Family and Mini packages respectively.
The churn rate was 9.1%, or 0.3 percentage points lower than a year earlier, and ARPU 4.5% higher at PLN39.5 (€9.45).
Thanks to the multiplay services it now provides, Cyfrowy Polsat also had 117,326 broadband internet and 144,288 mobile telephony (MVNO) subscribers as of September 30.
Even more impressively, the company was able to transform a net loss of PLN61,987 in Q3 2011 into a profit of PLN172,062 this third quarter.
EBITDA meanwhile rose from PLN196,216 to PLN257,897 over the same period.
Cyfrowy Polsat is working increasingly closely with the mobile company Polkomtel, thereby reaching a further potential 14 million customers.
However, from next year it will face stronger competition from Cyfra+ and n, its two main rivals in the DTH sector, once they complete their merger.
