The French government is “extremely concerned by the interference of satellites” and has asked the ITU to take action.
The French told the International Telecommunication Union that Eutelsat’s satellites have suffered severe interference from Iranian territory.
The jamming is affecting several international broadcasters including the BBC Persian service, the Iranian service of the Voice of America Farsi and Radio Farda from Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty.
Early October, Eutelsat had asked the French National Agency of Frequency Regulation (ANFR) to relay the complaint to the ITU to make this a priority. Eutelsat has been subject to jamming since 2007. “We are extremely concerned by the interference of satellites by Iran, which is in violation of international agreements.”
A spokesperson for the French prime minister said that the findings of the ANFR were sent to the ITU and that France was discussing possible sanctions with its European partners.
