Smart TVs and 3D televisions are becoming more popular with consumers in Europe, according to research by GfK.
According to GfK, in cooperation with the German GFU association of CE manufacturers, a total of 10 million 3D TV sets will be sold during 2012 in the ten major European markets (EU 10). This represents an increase of 100% compared with the previous year.
The EU10 countries include the UK, France, Spain, Germany and Italy.
GfK expects the 3D trend to continue during next year, when around 12.5 million 3D TV sets are expected to be sold, a further increase of 30%.
The market for connected or smart TVs is even larger with 13 million sets to be sold before the end of this year, a plus of 30% compared to 2011. Groth of smart TVs will continue through 2013 with another 22%.
GfK expects the market for TV sets to remain stable during 2013. In 2013 the market will have a value of EUR 21 billion, the same as in 2012. The research company also expects the number of sets to remain stable at 42 million units.
