Housing losses fail to dent YouSee

November 1, 2012 09.58 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Profits at Danish cablenet YouSee held up despite the loss of two housing network [organised] customers.

8,000 customers were lost as a result of the move, though tempered by the overall increase in basic subscribers of 11,000, and the addition of a new housing association customer that will bring in 3,000 homes in the fourth quarter.

There was also a rise in programming costs, stemming from the now regulated carriage fees for the commercial channel TV2.

Gross profit increased by 4.1% compared to 2011 at DKK 1,977 million (€265 million).

YouSee said that its new IP-based film offering would open up a new market beyond that of the traditional cable customer. It described its new Netgem OTT box as ‘Apple-style’ and said it was seeking a 50% share of the OTT market.

In partnership with C More, which until recently licensed the Canal+ brand in the Nordic markets, YouBio would also be available over smartphones, tablets and connected TVs.
