Netflix says it is hopeful of “Canada-like success” in the Nordic region where the movie streaming service launched last week.
“Since this is our fourth regional launch, we were able to apply what we’ve learned from our previous market launches to optimize the content programming library and marketing,” the company said in a statement, adding that it attracted more free trial members that was the case during its first week in the Canadian market.
Actual figures are not included in the Q3 results, since the launch fell outside of the reporting period.
International subscriptions reached 4.31 million including 3.69 million paid subscriptions and the 1 million members announced for the UK in July.
Netflix says it anticipates the UK market to take “materially longer” to reach profitability than was the case in Canada, due to high level of competition from other providers Sky and Lovefilm.
