The Polish Senate has put back a decision on amendment to the country’s Law on Radio and Television Broadcasting related to VOD services.
However, according to Presserwis, it voted against other proposed amendments to the legislation that would have seen the maximum fee charged to broadcasters for carriage on a DTT multiplex halved from PLN25.9 million (€6.3 million) to PLN12.9 million.
The amendment was proposed by senators from the Law and Justice Party (PiS), who said that it would open up the market to smaller broadcasters.
However, Jan Dworak, the head of the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT), said that the higher fee would only be charged to broadcasters offering HD services, with those transmitting in SD being charged a lower fee.
The amendment related to VOD was approved by the Polish parliament late last week.
