BBWF 2012 – Amsterdam. IPTV subscriptions grew by 15.9 million customers over last 12 month, serving 69.1 million customers now, according to the latest figures from Point Topic.
IPTV services alone have brought 69.1 million new set-top boxes into the connected home. Globally 3.57 million subscribers were added over last quarter.
In every region there is great pick up of IPTV service, with China, France and the United States leading the industry in adoption. Over the last quarter, Russia has also made amazing strides in rolling IPTV services out (+17%).
Growth within this quarter settled at 5.5%, compared with quarterly growth of 7.3% at the same time last year. Russia continues to post much higher growth than the rest of the market.
The Top 10 IPTV countries are: 1) China 16,275,000 subscribers (+7%), France 12,788,000 (+3%), 3) US 9,662,234 (+3%), 4) Republic of Korea 5,695,226 (+8%), 5) Japan 3,972,813 (+4%), 6) Germany 2,247,700 (+7%), 7) Russia 1,927,000 (+17%), 8) Hong Kong 1,375,000 (+1%, 9) Belgium 1,301,000 (+4%) and 10) The Netherlands 1,151,000 (+8%). “IPTV is still a relatively young technology, and so we can expect to see such high growth figures across many markets,” according to Point Topic, who compiled the figures for the Broadband Forum.
