The new Czech national commercial TV station Petka will make its debut today (October 15).
Offering entertainment-based programming, it will be distributed by Astra 3B in MPEG-2, taking over a slot previous occupied by Retro Music Television, and via the country’s third DTT multiplex, which is operated by the Czech Digital Group (CDG) and reaches around 96% of the population.
Although Petka has already secured coverage on the DTH platforms Skylink and CS Link, it will also hope in due course to be offered by both UPC Czech, the country’s leading cable operator, and the Telefónica O2-operated IPTV platform O2 TV, amongst others.
Petka is majority owned by the billionaire Lubos Metka, who is also behind the TV Metroprol, and will be competing in a market served by the national broadcasters CT, Nova and Prima.
