Samsung Electronics is to become the first TV manufacturer to offer music streaming from Spotify.
A new app will go live today on Samsung Smart TVs that brings on demand access to a library of some 18 million songs. Spotify playlists will sync across devices, including Samsung Blu-ray players and home entertainment centres.
“We are thrilled to debut the new Spotify app on Samsung Smart TVs, which will make listening to favourite tracks even easier for our customers who will no longer have to worry about connecting cables from their laptop or tablet to their Hi-Fi equipment. For the first time, they will be able to use their Samsung Smart TVs and home theatre systems to enjoy Spotify’s huge music library from the comfort of their living room,” said Dan Saunders, director of content services, Samsung Electronics, Europe.
Added Pascal de Mul, Global Head of Hardware partnerships, Spotify: “The television is at the heart of most people’s home entertainment experience, so it is a natural fit to make our music service available on internet-connected Smart TVs.”
The Spotify Smart TV App will join a growing collection of Apps available on Samsung Smart TVs including ITV Player, YouTube, BBC Sport, Teletext Holidays, Facebook and Twitter.
