Ryder Cup produces Sky Go record

October 8, 2012 08.30 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Sky Sports’ coverage of Europe’s surprise victory in the Ryder Cup has delivered record levels of online and mobile viewing on Sky Go.

Some 700,000 Sky customers followed the action on Sky Go, available on a range of internet-connected devices including iPad, iPhone and selected Android smartphones.

During Sunday evening (October 1) a peak audience of more than 200,000 were watching online or on mobile through the service. In addition 900,000 visitors came to the Sky Sports website and associated mobile apps to follow the latest news from the tournament.

Two-thirds of customers were using a mobile or tablet to watch the content, as opposed to their PC or games console.

Additionally, 174,000 Sky customers accessed the interactive coverage of the tournament through the red button on their Sky+HD box.

“These record-breaking figures for Sky Go demonstrate how Sky customers are increasing embracing new technologies to make sure they don’t miss a moment of the action. Sky Sports’ coverage of last weekend’s dramatic Ryder Cup had Sky customers in their hundreds of thousands reaching for their smartphones and mobile tablets to enjoy stunning live coverage and up-to-the-minute news,” said Luke Bradley-Jones, brand director, TV products.

On screen Sky Sports 1’s coverage reached close to 5 million.
