UPC has been fined CZK1 million (€40,000) by the Czech Telecom Office (CTU) for failing to notify subscribers about a change in its pricing structure.
E15 reports that the operator recently began to charge separately for the rental of modems and set-top boxes, having previously included the fees in the monthly subscription.
UPC has appealed against the decision, which is not final, with its spokesman being quoted as saying that in the long run it is cheaper for customers to buy than rent reception equipment.
UPC is the leading cable operator in the Czech Republic, claiming a total of 1,225,400 RGUs at the end of the second quarter.
Of these, 418,500 received its digital cable services.
