UPC Ireland has unveiled the country’s first social TV application, TV Buzz.
The launch by UPC Ireland follows an introduction in the Netherlands last April. Rollout in other territories is expected during the next few months.
TV Buzz is a free web-based service, open to everyone, which allows people to talk about their favourite television programmes through a dedicated social channel. TV Buzz monitors the top 10 socially trending programmes over 20 of the most popular UPC channels and the ranking is refreshed every five minutes. If people log in using their Facebook or Twitter accounts they can also see what their friends are saying about specific programmes.
Rhona Bradshaw, head of marketing at UPC said in a statement, “Social media has added a whole new dimension to watching television. Television is the second most discussed topic on social media which shows that people are now using social media to discuss what they are watching in real-time.”
“TV Buzz is a new way to interact with people while watching television and it’s part of UPC’s commitment to providing the best television service in Ireland. Whether you’re watching your favourite soap or catching up on the latest US box sets through On Demand television you can follow the online conversation through one easy to use website.”
TV Buzz can be accessed at www.tvbuzz.ie. TV buzz ranks the most popular programmes in real-time and also tracks the most popular programmes of the past week. By simply clicking on the show you can see all the social media comments using the programme hashtag or name.
